And finally… error of judgement
A judge has blamed his calculator for making an approximately £85 million error in a landmark damages award.
The error in the August judgment will be corrected in an upcoming ruling, potentially slashing it by up to a fifth.
The total award of $572 million (roughly £449 million) was handed down in relation to litigation brought against multinational company Johnson & Johnson in connection with the opioid addiction crisis in Oklahoma.
However, Judge Thad Balkman, a district judge in Cleveland County, Oklahoma, inadvertently included $107 million in relation to the cost of a state information campaign instead of the actual figure of $107,000, CBS reports.
According to The Oklahoman, Judge Balkman admitted his mistake yesterday and added: “That will be the last time I use that calculator.”
