Proposed legislation to ban ticket touting in Ireland will go before TDs in Autumn, the Irish Independent reports.

Noel Rock, a Fine Gael TD, will introduce a private members’ bill proposing jail terms of up to two years for the resale of concert or sports tickets for more than their face value.

Reselling a ticket at face value will be legal under the proposed law.

Mr Rock told the Irish Independent: “It won’t be 100 per cent effective, but it will drive some of the more militant operators off the street.

“People in the industry have told me that around 10 per cent of tickets for events are purchased by people with the explicit intention of selling them on.”

Gardaí will be able to confiscate tickets from suspected touts under the legislation.

Mr Rock said those found guilty of the proposed ticket touting offence would face up to two years in prison and fines of up to €5,000.
