NI: Brexit case to be appealed to UK Supreme Court

A legal challenge to Brexit that was rejected by the High Court in Belfast will be appealed all the way to the UK Supreme Court.

Solicitor Ciaran O’Hare of McIvor Farrell Solicitors, representing victims’ campaigner Raymond McCord, said: “No single precedent exists that categorically proves or disproves Mr McCord’s case. Therefore, it can be said that Mr McCord’s case is complex and ground-breaking.

“We have always been of the view that this matter must be put before the Supreme Court in London, as the Supreme Court is not bound by Precedent and has the power to make new law.”

He added: “Provisional dates have been set for the Supreme Court in early December.”

Mr O’Hare told Irish Legal News that a hearing in the High Court next Tuesday will establish the “mechanism for appeal” of the judgment.
