Fighter Conor McGregor is set to swap the ring for the courtroom for a series of trademark battles.

Dublin-born Mr McGregor has hired specialist trademark firm FR Kelly to help secure a number of trademarks, including “The Notorious” and “Conor McGregor”, The Irish Times reports.

He has made a series of applications to the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), some of which have been challenged.

DPT Group, an English business which sells “Notorious”-branded sportswear, registered “Notorious Fightwear” as a trademark in 2009.

Doniger Fashion, a Dutch clothing company which used to be called McGregor Fashion, has an existing trademark for “McGregor”.

Mr McGregor’s attempt to trademark “Notorious” for alcoholic drinks could come into conflict with an existing EUIPO mark for “Notorious” for alcohol, owned by Séamus O’Hara of Carlow Brewing Company.
