Cork solicitor ready to compete in Rio Olympics
A solicitor at Ronan Daly Jermyn Solicitors in Cork has been selected to join Ireland’s 27-man hockey team, which will compete for Ireland at the Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
John Jermyn, who has earned an impressive 158 caps and record 88 goals, is hoping to be selected for the final squad.
Sixteen of the 27-strong team will fly to Brazil to represent Ireland in a team sport at the Summer Olympics for the first time since 1948.
Their bid to win gold starts with a match against India on 6 August.
Richard Martin, managing partner at Ronan Daly Jermyn, said: “We are very proud of John. He has worked incredibly hard to get to where he is and we wish him the best of luck for selection to the Olympic squad traveling to Rio this summer.”
Mr Jermyn added: “I’m very grateful to Ronan Daly Jermyn for their continued support throughout an extremely intensive build up process.
“Playing in the Olympics has been a lifelong ambition which I hope to realise if included in the final squad.”
The men’s hockey team are raising funds to complete their build-up programme for their historic involvement in the Rio Games.
They recently embarked on a major fundraising drive to plug the €225,000 gap in their budget and have launched a hockey crowdfunding campaign called Obsessed.
