Department of Justice reforms on track to be completed this year
Major internal reforms to the Department of Justice are on track to be completed by October 2019, according to a new report.
The Effectiveness and Renewal Group (ERG) in the Department has published its third report, documenting progress in the fourth quarter of 2018.
The ERG, which was established by Government in January 2018 to monitor and guide change within the Department, found substantial progress has been made since its last report in October 2018.
The Department has been realigned with the establishment of new “pillars”: a civil justice and equality pillar and a criminal justice pillar, supported by a corporate affairs pillar.
Deputy secretary Oonagh Buckley has been appointed to head the civil justice and equality pillar and deputy secretary Oonagh McPhillips has been appointed to head the criminal justice pillar.
Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan said: “This report provides strong assurance that the transformation underway in my Department has the required momentum to be completed successfully by the target date of October 2019. I commend the enthusiasm with which all levels of the organisation are engaging with this significant change and will continue in my strong support and sponsorship of this important change process.
“I would again like to thank the Effectiveness and Renewal Group for their continued dedication and I will be engaging with the Group this quarter to review arrangements going forward.”
