Dr Sarah Fulham-McQuillan has been appointed assistant professor in constitutional law at UCD Sutherland School of Law.

She joined the university a year ago as the McCann FitzGerald-sponsored assistant professor in law and business.

Dr Fulham-McQuillan, who researches and lectures in constitutional law, tort law and medical law, is a former Government of Ireland Scholar who completed her undergraduate and doctoral studies at Trinity College Dublin.

Her monograph, entitled “Redefining the Medical Negligence Action: A Doctor’s Duty to Take Care”, is forthcoming with Hart Publishing, an imprint of Bloomsbury Publishing, having been accepted into Hart’s distinguished Private Law Series. It is the first and only monograph in the UK and Ireland to focus on a doctor’s duty of care in medical negligence law.

As an emerging scholar in the field of obligations, and through her work on the public law/private law divide, she has presented her work at more than 21 conferences nationally and internationally, most recently at the University of Cambridge, the University of Melbourne, and in Washington, D.C.

She has also been an invited guest speaker at Harvard Law School, at the Obligations Discussion Group at the University of Oxford, and at Fordham University in New York.

Dr Fulham-McQuillan told Irish Legal News: “I am delighted to be appointed assistant professor in constitutional law, and to continue in the Sutherland School of Law after a fantastic year as the McCann FitzGerald assistant professor in law and business.

“In my capacity as deputy director of the UCD Centre for Constitutional Studies, working with my colleagues and the director, Professor Eoin Carolan, I look forward to contributing to the centre’s strong expertise, future projects and events.”
