Dublin solicitor struck off

The Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT) found Damien Cassidy, formerly principal of Walker and Co Solicitors, Sandymount Road, Dublin, guilty of eight counts of misconduct which included failure to reply to correspondence from the Law Society or to attend meetings of its complaints and client relations committee.

At the conclusion of a three-day hearing the SDT noted that Mr Cassidy had previously failed to co-operate with the Law Society and had 62 previous findings of professional misconduct against him. Accordingly, it recommended that he be struck off.

Mr Cassidy, who was in practice from 1970 to 2015, contested the striking-off application and represented himself in court.

Mr Justice Peter Kelly approved the recommendation that he be struck off.
