Ennis solicitor Michelle O’Keeffe avoids jail over €150,000 theft

Ennis solicitor Michelle O’Keeffe has been given a four-year suspended sentence for stealing nearly €150,000 from clients.
Ms O’Keeffe, 56, pleaded guilty to the theft of €149,830 from 11 clients over a five-year period, The Irish Times reports.
Judge Gerald Keys in Ennis Circuit Court imposed a four-year suspended sentence, noting her early guilty plea, no previous convictions, genuine remorse and co-operation.
Ms O’Keeffe was struck off in January 2014 after discrepancies were first identified by the Law Society of Ireland.
The Law Society’s compensation fund made payments to her clients and she has since made full restitution.
