Ethics watchdog issues court action warning to eight lobbyists

Eight lobbyists were threatened with court action by the Standards in Public Office Commission (SIPO) last year, the Irish Examiner reports.

Prosecution proceedings were launched against registered lobbyists for failing to comply with reporting obligations under the Regulation of Lobbying Act 2015.

Six of the cases were resolved through compliance, which included penalties for late filing, while the other two cases remain active.

The ethics watchdog also launched 26 investigations into possible unregistered lobbying activity last year, of which 13 are still open.

Since receiving enforcement powers in 2017, SIPO has issued over 1,000 fines on lobbyists for non-compliance with the 2015 Act.
