Examining the Effectiveness of the Equal Status Acts

The first seminar will examine the experience of the Equal Status Acts to date. The Equal Status Acts prohibit discrimination in the provision of goods and services, accommodation and education, on the nine grounds of gender, marital status, family status, age, disability, sexual orientation, race, religion, and membership of the Traveller community. The Acts also prohibit discrimination in the provision of accommodation services against people who are in receipt of housing assistance payments.

The seminar will explore the positive contribution of the legislation to date, as well as its limitations. The effectiveness of the procedural framework and remedies for Equal Status claims will also be discussed.
