Former Sinn Féin justice spokesperson settles defamation claim against RTÉ
Sinn Féin’s former justice spokesperson Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire has settled a defamation claim against broadcaster RTÉ for over €150,000, according to reports.
Mr Ó Laoghaire, who studied law at UCC, launched proceedings in the High Court last summer following disparaging comments made about him on RTÉ Radio 1’s Liveline in March that year.
The parties reached a settlement in recent weeks for a sum “in excess of €150,000”, according to The Irish Times.
Mr Ó Laoghaire continues to serve as a Sinn Féin TD for Cork South Central but became the party’s education spokesperson in a reshuffle several months ago.
