NI: Former trainee solicitor jailed for assaults on now ex-girlfriend

A former trainee solicitor who admitted assaulting his now ex-girlfriend over a six month period has been jailed for four years.

Kevin McDaid, 32, was sentenced by Judge Philip Babington in Londonderry Crown Court yesterday, the Belfast Telegraph reports.

He pleaded guilty to 15 offences including assault, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, falsely imprisoning and threatening to kill his former girlfriend, causing criminal damage to her property, and assaulting a third party who came to his victim’s assistance.

Judge Babington also imposed a five-year restraining order on Mr McDaid, banning him from going within 100 metres of any property in which his victim lived.
