The Vehicle Clamping Act 2015 will be commenced in early Autumn, according to Transport Minister Shane Ross.

The legislation, signed into law in May 2015, sets the maximum release fee for vehicle clamping at €100 and relocation at €50.

The Department of Transport has come under pressure from TDs to implement the law as some private clampers still charge up to €300 to release vehicles.

Noel Rock, Fine Gael TD for Dublin North West, told The Irish Times: “These ridiculous fees were supposed to be capped years ago. It’s insane that people are still being charged a rate above the cap that was supposed to be introduced in the Vehicle Clamping Bill.

“This isn’t on. It’s time for Shane Ross to sign this into law quickly.”
