Irish law lecturers Dr Louise Kennefick and Dr Deidre Healy have presented a joint paper on probation in Ireland at the conference of a European Society of Criminology working group.

Dr Kennefick of Maynooth University and Dr Healy of UCD last week presented a paper discussing the preliminary findings of their study, Histories of Probation in Ireland: A Theoretical Analysis.

They were attending the 9th Annual Seminar of the Working Group on Community Sanctions and Measures of the European Society of Criminology at the NUI Building, Dublin.

The working group provides a forum to discuss, develop and collaborate on new criminal justice research with other early stage researchers and lead/senior academics on a European level.

Speaking after the conference, Dr Kennefick told Irish Legal News: “The event was very successful, with a variety of research projects at various stages being presented and discussed.

“To gain insight from experts in community sanctions and measures at a European level ensures project objectives and methods operate at the highest level.”
