Law professors to discuss EU copyright review

Giuseppe Mazziotti

Two law professors from Trinity College Dublin (TCD) are set to discuss the wider implications of EU copyright review at a free discussion event next Tuesday.

Giuseppe Mazziotti, co-author of the European Parliament’s Review of the EU copyright framework: European Implementation Assessment, will join fellow law professor Eoin O’Dell to discuss the commercial, technological, cultural and societal implications of the ongoing review.

It will include a wider discussion about the “identity crisis” suffered in the digital age by the body of domestic and international law concerning copyright, which has traditionally aimed to ensure an economic incentive and reward to content creators and producers.

The EU’s ongoing copyright review is part of the EU Digital Agenda, whereby European policy makers are seeking to ensure a more effective, uniform and acceptable definition of copyright’s scope and of its online enforcement techniques.

The discussion takes place in Paccar Theatre, Science Gallery, Dublin on Tuesday 24 November, 6pm-7.30pm.
