Matheson partners Pat English and Gráinne Callanan addressed the American Chamber of Commerce’s (ACC) southern conference and presidents’ dinner in Cork.

The law firm sponsored the conference, which took place at University College Cork and featured three panel discussions on the topics of innovation, collaboration and the southern region.

Mr English, corporate partner, took part in the discussion titled “Opportunities for the Southern Region”.

He said: “The southern region is home to a diverse range of international companies and entrepreneurial indigenous success stories. This success is driven by several factors such as a skilled workforce, close links to leading academic institutions, good connectivity and a positive business environment.”

Ms Callanan, who leads the firm’s Cork office, addressed the presidents’ dinner in the Maryborough Hotel.

She said: “At Matheson, we believe in Cork and the southern region. We see the existing and emerging opportunities for the local economy, indigenous businesses and community, combined with the attractiveness of the region for international businesses looking to establish in Ireland.”

Matheson opened its first Irish regional office in Cork last year, becoming the first of the largest Irish law firms to establish an office in the Munster region in addition to its Dublin headquarters.

It recently expanded its Cork office through a merger with Crowley Solicitors, with founder Deirdre Crowley joining the firm’s Cork office as a partner.
