Mr Justice Peter Kelly, president of the High Court, is expected to be appointed as temporary president of the Court of Appeal, The Irish Times reports.

Mr Justice Séan Ryan, the incumbent president of the Court of Appeal, is believed to require a medical procedure in the near future which will involve time off to recover.

Under the Court of Appeal Act 2014, the president of the High Court will exercise the jurisdictions, powers, authorities and functions of the president of the Court of Appeal if the incumbent president is “unable owing to illness or for any other reason to transact the business of his or her office”.
