Mr Justice Peart to launch 17th Volume of Hibernian Law Journal
The latest volume of the Hibernian Law Journal will be launched by Mr Justice Michael Peart at a special ceremony at the Law Society next week.
Mr Justice Peart, a judge of the Court of Appeal, will preside over the launch event on Tuesday.
The 17th Volume of the Hibernian Law Journal covers topics such as proposals for collective litigation mechanisms in Ireland; the autonomy of the European Union’s legal order; the ‘good character’ requirement for acquisition of Irish citizenship; the ‘right to truth’ in post-conflict Northern Ireland and Cambodia; and the so-called ‘cyberspace fallacy’, in addition to several book reviews and case notes.
It also includes the full remarks delivered in May by each of the leading judges who won the inaugural Hibernian Law Medals.
The proceedings of the Journal’s annual lecture, convened in November 2017 and titled Checkpoint Cathal: Brexit & the Border, will also be published. This includes contributions by Senator Michael McDowell SC; Miriam González, co-chair of International Trade and Government Regulation at Dechert LLP; and Professor Colin Harvey of Queen’s University Belfast.
At the launch, prizes will be announced by Mr Justice Peart for “Best Article”, “Best Trainee Article” and “Best Case Note”.
Glen Rogers, editor-in-chief of the Hibernian Law Journal, said: “We are proud that there are many valuable and important lessons contained in this Volume, which demonstrate fully the quality of legal scholarship undertaken by young people in this country and beyond, and we hope that our community will enjoy reading them.”
