New York State Bar Association debates whether to strike Rudy Giuliani off

The bar published a statement accusing Mr Giuliani of playing a part in the Capitol incident last week.

The organisation said it received hundreds of complaints about Mr Giuliani in recent months, most of which concerned his involvement in Mr Trump’s attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

Mr Giuliani said those involved in the attack on the Capitol, which saw six people die, were on the “right side of history”.

He had said to a crowd of supporters earlier that day: “If we’re wrong, we will be made fools of, but if we’re right, a lot of them will go to jail.”

He added: “Let’s have trial by combat.”  

Trump supporters thereafter swarmed the Capitol.

“Based on these complaints, and the statement Mr Guiliani uttered shortly before the attack on the Capitol, NYSBA President Scott M Karson has launched an inquiry pursuant to the Association’s bylaws to determine whether Mr Giuliani should be removed from the membership rolls of the Association,” the statement said.
