Private security firms enforcing court orders to be regulated

Charlie Flanagan

The Cabinet will today consider proposals to bring private security firms hired to enforce court orders under the oversight of the Private Security Authority (PSA).

Justice Minister Charlie Flanagan will seek approval from his colleagues for legislation which would bring enforcement guards under the PSA’s training standards and licensing regime.

The Private Security Services Act 2004 does not regulate private security workers hired to enforce court orders, such as repossession orders.

It is expected that Attorney General Séamus Woulfe SC and officials from the Department of Justice will begin working on legislative amendments immediately, The Irish Times reports.
