NI: Solicitor in Widowed Parent’s Allowance case to address TEDxStormont
Belfast solicitor Laura Banks, who acted for Siobhan McLaughlin in her UK Supreme Court challenge to the rules governing the payment of a Widowed Parent’s Allowance, will deliver a TEDx talk later this month.
TEDx events are independently-organised community events where speakers present ideas in the famous “TED talk” style – no more than 18 minutes long.
Ms Banks, of Francis Hanna & Co Solicitors, will be one of 18 speakers at TEDxStormont, which is talking place at the Parliament Buildings on Saturday 31 August.
The overall theme of the event, hosted by William Crawley, is “Imagine” and will see contributions about the future of society in Northern Ireland and beyond.
Ms Banks said: “It is a huge honour and privilege to be invited to speak amongst a group of such interesting and inspiring people. In the current political climate, it is more important than ever that we come together to imagine a better future. The location of the event, Parliament Buildings, is very fitting.
“I’m particularly pleased as a lawyer to be invited to speak, as the extent to which the law can play a significant role in positive change in society, is an important message and one that I very much look forward to sharing.”
