US: Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani faces $1.3bn lawsuit over election claims

Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani is facing a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit from a company he allegedly accused of playing a role in rigging the US presidential election against Donald Trump.

Dominion Voting Systems, which supplies voting machines and software for dozens of US states and municipalities, yesterday filed a 107-page complaint which accuses Mr Giuliani of having “manufactured and disseminated” conspiracy theories involving the company.

The complaint highlights more than 50 statements from Mr Giuliani, including his comments at a rally immediately preceding the storming of the US Capitol by a pro-Trump mob, The Guardian reports.

In response to the lawsuit, Mr Giuliani told WABC: “Dominion’s defamation lawsuit for $1.3 billion will allow me to investigate their history, finances, and practices fully and completely.

“The amount being asked for is, quite obviously, intended to frighten people of faint heart. It is another act of intimidation by the hate-filled left-wing to wipe out and censor the exercise of free speech, as well as the ability of lawyers to defend their clients vigorously.

“As such, we will investigate a countersuit against them for violating these constitutional rights.”
