NI: Worthingtons Solicitors tops charity will-writing fundraising in Northern Ireland

Newtownards and Belfast firm Worthingtons Solicitors raised more for Will Aid than any other law firm in Northern Ireland last year.

The firm raised a total of £2,390 for the Will Aid scheme in its 30th anniversary year last November.

It marked the ninth year that the firm has taken part in the month-long fundraising, writing wills in exchange for a voluntary donation.

Catherine Cooney, head of charity law at Worthingtons, said: “We are committed to the Will Aid campaign as it fundraises for some top UK charities.

“As a firm we are dedicated to charity fundraising and passionate about our local community, the Will Aid campaign is a great way for us to engage our clients and the local community in raising money for worthy causes.”

Mark McMahon from Christian Aid visited the firm to present them with a certificate to thank them for their achievement.

He said: “The team at Worthingtons Solicitors have really embraced the Will Aid scheme and all their time and hard work will translate into transformed lives for those living in poverty across the world.

“Thanks to the donations from Will Aid we can make a real difference. Just £150 could pay for a mobile health clinic in Kenya where mothers can get ante-natal check-ups and babies and young children can get their all-important immunisations, while £95 could pay for three water hand pumps in South Sudan, helping families access fresh, clean water.”

Will Aid is a charity will-writing scheme that raises money for ActionAid, British Red Cross, Christian Aid, NSPCC, Save The Children, Sightsavers, Age UK, SCIAF (Scotland) and Trocaire (Northern Ireland).

Peter de Vena Franks, campaign director at Will Aid, said: “Will Aid has made an amazing contribution to the work of these nine participating charities in the last 30 years.

“Thanks to the commitment of local solicitors that took part in this year’s Will Aid, many people both in the UK and abroad will receive life-changing support and local people who used the scheme have the peace of mind that having a professionally drawn up will brings.

“I would like to offer my heartfelt thanks to Worthingtons Solicitors for their incredible efforts this year.”
