American mediator Tim Hicks to address Dublin event

American mediation expert Tim Hicks will discuss his new book, which explores te neuroscience underpinning conflict and communication, at a private Mediators’ Institute of Ireland (MII) event next week.

Mr Hicks is a conflict resolution professional in private practice in Eugene, Oregon, having worked as a mediator since 1993.

He was the first director of the Master’s degree programme in conflict and dispute resolution at the University of Oregon.

He currently provides mediation, facilitation, and organizational consulting to individuals and organizations in the public and private spheres.

Margaret Considine, president of the Mediators’ Institute of Ireland, said she was “thrilled to welcome Tim to Dublin” on Monday to discuss his new book, Embodied Conflict: the neural basis of conflict and communication.

Se said: “Through his recently published book, Embodied Conflict, Tim Hicks has delved into the essential concepts of neural science and applied this learning to how we can understand what happens in conflict and how we can use this understanding in very practical ways.

“Tim has a passion for resolving conflict. He demonstrates this through his private practise in Oregon and his book writing which includes Last Stop Before Tomorrow, which wrestles with the dilemmas of climate change and technology, and the search for answers to this major challenge for humanity.”

Ms Considine added: “Our mediators and conflict resolution specialists will learn much from Tim and help our members to increase their professional capacity to provide conflict resolution services in situations that range from personal two-party disputes to major international challenges like climate change.”
