And finally… checking out
A team competing in the world checkers championship was held captive in the hotel hosting the tournament because the bill had not been paid.
The Dutch checkers team were not allowed to leave the hotel in the Ivory Coast until the bill had been settled, they said on Facebook.
The spat over the payment was between the hotel and the Ivorian Ministry of Sport, RTL Nieuws reports.
Harry Otten of the global checkers federation FMJD told RTL that the hotel “called in armed police and closed the gates”. He said it was “hostage taking” and “a more than outrageous situation”.
The guests were eventually allowed to leave.
