And finally… dance off
A parody musical inspired by Australia’s infamous Olympic breakdancer Raygun has been shut down following a threat of legal action.
Lawyers for Rachael Gunn — who uses the breakdancing name Raygun — intervened to stop the debut performance of Raygun: The Musical just hours before it was due to start, CNN reports.
Comedian Steph Broadbridge, who wrote and was to star in the musical, said lawyers had contacted the Sydney venue to stop the performance on Saturday.
Ms Gunn’s lawyers are said to have accused the production of damaging her brand as well as infringing her exclusive rights to her breakdancing moves, which were widely mocked after her appearance at Paris Olympics.
Ms Broadbridge said: “That one did puzzle me — I mean, that’s an Olympic-level dance. How would I possibly be able to do that without any formal breakdancing training?”
However, she said she was sorry for “any negativity” arising from the musical, which was supposed to celebrate Ms Gunn as an Australian icon.
