Jane Dodd, of Hickman County in the US state of Tennessee, renewed her license only to discover that a clerical error meant the photo on her ID was of an empty chair.

Ms Dodd told CNN affiliate WKRN that she found the incident hilarious. She added: “My boss thinks it’s funnier than anyone. I was at work Friday and he pointed to a chair outside of his office door and was like, ‘I thought this was you, I waved at it this morning’ and I was like ‘thanks’.”

The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security told CNN the error happened as the photo of the chair was the last picture taken on file and it was mistakenly uploaded for Ms Dodd’s licence. The error was fixed as soon as the department was made aware of the situation.
