And finally… fake news
A plastic surgeon who undertook a two-week cosmetic surgery course in Florida has had his clinic shut down for practising without a licence after patients complained they had been mutilated.
Dr Eric Obeng Andoh denies being a fake doctor and went to court to have the closure order of Ghana’s Medical and Dental Council reversed.
Dr Andoh’s solicitor presented ‘alternative facts’ to Accra High Court and insisted that his client had obtained a certificate from the fortnight-long course he undertook in the Sunshine State, asserting that numerous patients held the ‘doctor’ in high esteem.
Dr Andoh’s appeal was rejected by the court, however, when it was found that he was being represented by a fake lawyer — who, like his client, was practising without a licence.
Deputy Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council, Dr Divine Banyubala said the Council will ensure the lives of patients are not at risk.
He added: “The Court having considered the arguments on both sides on our interlocutory application found merit in the position of the Medical and Dental Council that his lawyer did not have a valid license.”
The Court awarded costs against Dr Andoh and found in favour of the Council.
