And finally… heavy
Heavy metal band Twisted Sister has won a payout of nearly €1 million after an Australian politician ripped off the lyrics to “We’re Not Gonna Take It” for his election campaign.
Clive Palmer, a billionaire mining magnate whose right-wing United Australia Party failed to win a single seat in the 2019 federal election, used “Aussies Not Gonna Cop It” on the campaign trail.
He initially claimed that he wrote the song, before eventually arguing that it was satire and therefore exempt from copyright rules, RTÉ reports.
However, an Australian judge said the music and lyrics of the two tracks were too similar and rejected Mr Palmer’s arguments in defence.
The magnate was ordered to pay $1.5 million AUD in damages, around €965,000 or £890,000.
