And finally… holy smoke
The Pope has banned the sale of cigarettes at the Vatican because it is not “legitimate” to profit from something that harms public health.
In a statement, the Vatican said Pope Francis had “decided that the Vatican will cease to sell cigarettes to employees as of 2018”.
It added: “Although the cigarettes sold to employees and pensioners in the Vatican at a reduced price are a source of revenue for the Holy See, no profit can be legitimate if it puts lives at risk.”
The Pope himself has one lung after losing one to a teenage infection.
Despite the tobacco clampdown, he has allowed the Vatican’s duty-free shop to continue selling tax-free booze to employees and pensioners.
