And finally… lights, camera, resignation!
A deputy sheriff caught stealing $200 from a drink driving suspect on his own body camera as been branded a “thieving idiot” by his boss.
Volusia County sheriff’s deputy John Braman resigned from his $60,000 a year job on Monday after the state attorney’s office released a video of the officer purloining two $100 bills from a man he pulled over for driving under the influence.
He is now under investigation — but Volusia County Sheriff Mike Chitwood did not mince his words.
He told the Daytona News Journal: “He represents an infinitesimal number of bad cops around the country but when this gets played in the news it makes everyone who wears the badge have to defend themselves against the actions of this idiot.
“And that’s what he is, a thieving idiot.”
The incident occurred during a traffic stop and arrest on 1 August.
Sheriff Chitwood added that the Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has, over several months, received several complaints about Braman stealing money from the wallets of DUI prisoners he was arresting.
