And finally… out of puff
A man was fined for flouting pandemic restrictions after trying to walk across the Pyrénées to buy cheap cigarettes and needing to be rescued.
The unnamed man was trying to travel from a southern French city to buy cigarettes in Catalonia in northern Spain, where they are cheaper.
He originally attempted to drive but, having been stopped by a police checkpoint, attempted the mountainous journey on foot instead.
However, he fell into a stream, landed in thorny bushes and then became lost, requiring an emergency rescue, The Guardian reports.
After he was found “exhausted, shivering with cold and lost”, he was fined €135 for breaking lockdown restrictions, French police said.
