And finally… test of Mattel
A mother is suing toy giant Mattel after purchasing a Wicked doll with a misprinted web address that led to a pornographic website.
Mattel apologised last month for the packaging mistake on the first run of fashion dolls based on Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo’s characters in the new film adaptation of the Broadway musical.
The dolls with misprinted packaging were pulled from sale, but refunds were not offered for those already sold.
South Carolina woman Holly Ricketson is now suing Mattel, alleging that her daughter visited the web address and inadvertently saw “hardcore, full on nude pornographic images”.
Her lawyer, Roy Willey of Poulin Willey Anastopoulo LLC, told USA TODAY: “This lawsuit is not just about recovering the cost of these dolls; it is about holding corporations accountable for the responsibility they have to safeguard children.
“When a company markets a product to young children, it has an obligation to ensure that every aspect of that product — from its design to its packaging — is free of risks to their safety and well-being.”
