Legal practitioners have until Friday 4 April 2025, 5pm, to apply for the grant of a patent of precedence.

A patent of precedence allows a barrister or solicitor to use the title of senior counsel, and allows a barrister to be called to the Inner Bar.

The government grants patents of precedence to barristers and solicitors each year based on recommendations from an advisory committee established in 2020.

This is the sixth annual round of Patents of Precedence applications to the advisory committee, for recommendations to be made by the Advisory Committee to Government in 2025.
