Arthur Cox selects Geoff Moore as new managing partner
The law firm Arthur Cox has chosen Geoff Moore, a senior partner in the firm’s corporate department, as its next managing partner.
Mr Moore will lead the firm for the next four years. He will take office on 1 November, succeeding Brian O’Gorman who will return to full-time practice as a corporate partner having served two terms as Managing Partner.
Mr Moore, 44, from Cork, graduated from UCC in 1996 and holds an M Litt from TCD. He joined Arthur Cox as a trainee in 1998, left for two years to work in the corporate finance group of a leading New York firm and returned to the firm, being made a partner in 2007.
He has advised on many of the largest and most high-profile M&A deals in Irish corporate history and is recognised as one of the country’s leading corporate lawyers by each of Chambers Global/Europe, The Legal 500 and the IFLR. He specialises in corporate finance, private equity and equity capital markets. He also has an active public company advisory practice.
Arthur Cox selects a managing partner from among its partners every four years to lead the firm. A managing partner can serve up to two terms.
Welcoming the appointment, the chair of Arthur Cox Orla O’Connor said: “I am delighted that someone of Geoff’s experience and calibre is to become Managing Partner. Geoff has risen to the very top in his professional practice and has also shown leadership within this large, busy and diverse firm. He has held several management roles in the firm, including as team lead in the Corporate Department and as one of our Diversity Partners.
“Brian O’Gorman has led the firm with vision and calmness for eight years, through a period of extraordinary change, both in the external environment and within the firm. On behalf of all at Arthur Cox we thank him and wish him well as he returns to full-time practice.”
Mr Moore said: “It is a great honour to be chosen to lead this firm, which has played such a central role in Ireland’s business life for so long and celebrates its 100th birthday next year. We are facing into a period of uncertainty in the international economic and business environment, and this is a time of opportunity for the firm in ensuring that we can provide the service required by our clients operating in this changing environment.”
Mr O’Gorman said: “My eight years as Managing Partner has been extraordinarily eventful and fulfilling, and I am delighted to hand over to someone with the mixture of achievement and ambition that Geoff possesses. I want to thank everyone in Arthur Cox for making these eight years so rewarding and memorable for me.”
