NI: Ashers seek UKSC appeal over ‘gay cake’ discrimination case
A bakery company which was found to have discriminated against a man on grounds of sexual orientation has said it will try to appeal the ruling to the UK Supreme Court.
Lawyers for the McArthur family, owners of Ashers Bakery Company, have written to Court of Appeal judges in Belfast asking for clarity on whether they can appeal their ruling.
In the letter, they referred to “the wider public importance which this clase clearly has”, and said they “respectfully invite the Court of Appeal to consider giving a short ruling on the question of whether appeal to the United Kingdom Supreme Court is available in this case”.
The McArthur family’s legal team has said they would also consider taking the case to the European Court of Human Rights.
