Attorney General Máire Whelan expected to join Court of Appeal benches
Attorney General Máire Whelan is expected to be removed from her post and appointed to the Court of Appeal following new Taoiseach Leo Varadkar’s Cabinet reshuffle.
The Irish Times reports that Frank Callanan SC has been tipped to replace Ms Whelan, who was appointed in 2011 on the recommendation of the Labour Party, who were then junior coalition partners with Fine Gael.
She was reappointed under Fine Gael’s minority government last year.
The Irish Times also reports that its sources believe either Charlie Flanagan or Richard Bruton could replace Frances Fitzgerald as head of the Department of Justice, while its minister of state David Stanton is likely to lose his role in the Government altogether.
