Bailieborough courthouse to be developed into tourist site

A community group has been awarded over €450,000 in funding to redevelop the disused courthouse in Bailieborough, Co Cavan as an economic and tourism centre.
The Bailieborough Development Association (BDA) has received an offer of funding of €100,000 under the Rural Economic Development Zones (REDZ) programme and over €370,000 under PEACE IV, The Anglo-Celt reports.
Peader Reynolds, chairman of the BDA, said: “It is exciting, very exciting. It is an iconic building in the town, and it’s important that now, in the not too distant future hopefully, it can be a place all the community can benefit from.”
Lee McDonnell, manager of BDA services, added: “We want to make sure what we put into the courthouse in Bailieborough is multi-functional and multi-use. We want to put life back into it.”
