NI: Baker McKenzie credits Belfast office with helping to deliver efficiency boost worth $50m
Global law firm Baker McKenzie has credited its global services centre in Belfast with helping to deliver “significant efficiencies and savings” worth over $50 million in annual revenue.
Paul Rawlinson, chair of the firm, made the remarks as he welcomed figures showing global revenues up 10 per cent (in terms of constant currency) to $2.9 billion at the end of the 2018 fiscal year.
Profits per partner were up by 13 per cent to $1.44 million, driven by large client mandates, including high-value cross-border transactional and premium work.
Baker McKenzie opened its Belfast office in late 2014, and it now provides over 30 legal and business services, including finance, corporate support, marketing and IT.
In June, the firm announced plans to grow the Belfast office from around 300 to 450 staff in order to support its position as a “major innovation hub”.
Commenting on the latest figures, Mr Rawlinson said: “Baker McKenzie is the only law firm that offers a truly global integrated digital innovation platform to clients and this is already beginning to make a direct impact on our financial performance.
“We estimate that our use of alternative legal services in Belfast, our e-discovery platforms and our use of legal project management are already bringing significant efficiencies and savings to our clients and more than $50 million in annual revenue to support our core legal services on high-value mandates.”
