Ballaghaderreen solicitor reimburses €344k taken from child’s estate
A solicitor who paid himself fees of €344,000 out of a child’s €454,840 estate has reimbursed the cash, the Irish Independent reports.
The High Court was told that the sum had been lodged in an account controlled by another solicitor pending a further court order.
The Law Society of Ireland applied for solicitor Declan O’Callaghan, from Ballaghaderreen, to be suspended from practice pending a hearing before the Solicitors Disciplinary Tribunal (SDT).
However, Mr O’Callaghan has proposed that he be allowed to continue practising under the supervision of another solicitor.
Mr Justice Peter Kelly agreed to adjourn the matter until next month to allow the Law Society to consider his proposal.
