NI: Bar objects to September 2017 roll-out for statutory registration scheme
The launch of a statutory registration scheme for providers of publicly-funded legal services must be pushed back further than September 2017, The Bar of Northern Ireland has said.
In its response to the Department of Justice’s consultation on the scheme, The Bar said the latest consultation document “includes significant alterations to the scheme, many of which lack detail and have not been the subject of prior engagement”.
The Bar therefore says it would challenge “both the adequacy of a shortened targeted consultation and the expressed ambition of implementing the scheme in September 2017”.
It views the scheme as “only at an initial design stage without the necessary detail and evidence base to provide confidence and clarity”.
The full consultation response has been published on the Bar website.
