NI: Bar of NI welcomes draft Witness Charter
The Bar of Northern Ireland has welcomed the proposed creation of a Witness Charter for Northern Ireland, but warned it must be accessible for the vast majority of court users in its practical application.
The Department of Justice closed its consultation on the draft Witness Charter yesterday.
The Bar has since published its consultation response online.
It notes the Charter is “very lengthy at 55 pages and unnecessarily verbose at times”, warning of a “real risk that the Charter in its present form will be inaccessible for the vast majority of court users”.
