NI: Bar of Northern Ireland to bring together panel to discuss Stormont stalemate
Critical questions around decision-making in Northern Ireland in the absence of a functioning Northern Ireland Executive will be examined at an event hosted by The Bar of Northern Ireland later this month.
The first event in The Bar’s new Leaders in Legal Excellence Series will bring together Peter May, permanent secretary of the Department of Justice; John Larkin QC, Attorney General for Northern Ireland; Paul Frew MLA, DUP justice spokesperson; Karen Quinlivan QC; and a Sinn Féin representative.
It comes after Westminster’s recent approval of the Northern Ireland (Executive Formation and Exercise of Functions) Act 2018, which aims to enable civil servants to take certain decisions in the absence of Northern Ireland ministers.
Sarah Ramsey BL, the newly-elected chair of the Bar Council, will chair the discussion on Monday 26 November, 4.30pm.
