NI: Bar raises over £22,000 for cancer charity
The Bar of Northern Ireland presented a cheque for £22,500 to The Boom Foundation after a year of fundraising events and activities.
Cancer charity The Boom Foundation was set up in April 2013 by Leona Rankin of Carson McDowell Solicitors, having lost her fiancé to Sarcoma, a rare form of soft tissue and bone cancer.
Money raised by the foundation is split between assisting sarcoma patients in Northern Ireland and contributing to Sarcoma UK’s research and care.
Presenting the cheque on behalf of the Bar’s charity committee, Sinead McKeagney BL said: “I’m thrilled to present this donation to Leona and her team at the Boom Foundation, and I hope it makes a real difference to the lives of those affected by Sarcoma. The charity does excellent work locally in Northern Ireland and we were determined to help in any way we could.
“A highlight of the year for me was the Annual Charity Ball with guest entertainer David Meade. It was such a memorable night and was one of the year’s most successful fundraising events.”
Ms McKeagney added: “I would like to acknowledge the members of the legal profession and judiciary for their support and thank them for their involvement over the past year.”
