Barrister Eoin Delap appointed CEO of Irish Centre for European Law
Eoin Delap BL has been appointed as the chief executive officer of the Irish Centre for European Law (ICEL).
Mr Delap is a practising barrister and a member of the Law Library in Dublin who has previously worked in the charities sector in Ireland and the United States.
A graduate of University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin and the King’s Inns, he practices in the areas of commercial and administrative law with a particular focus on EU law.
He succeeds Dr Stephen Brittain BL, who has led ICEL for four years and was responsible for a number of notable events, including the recent Brexit seminar series, the annual flagship ICEL and Eversheds Sutherland public procurement law conference and others.
Mr Delap will take responsibility for ICEL’s engaging programme of events scheduled for the autumn, beginning with a conference on the recently enacted Competition (Amendment) Act 2022.
Following a period of online-only events due to the public health restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic, ICEL now hopes to welcome participants to in-person events during the coming months.
Advocate General Anthony M. Collins, president of ICEL, said: “This is an important appointment for the Centre that comes at a vital moment in our work, and with the backdrop of the 50th anniversary of Ireland’s membership of the EU and the 70th anniversary of the Court of Justice of the European Union.
“I look forward to working with Eoin and the board of directors to ensure the Centre remains the leading forum for expertise in European law.
“I would also like to thank Stephen for his commitment to and leadership of the Centre during his tenure. The Centre has held many successful events during Stephen’s time as CEO and, behind the scenes, strengthened key aspects of the organisation preparing the ground for the years ahead.”
