Barrister’s report to recommend €8k increase in councillors’ pay

A new report prepared by Sara Moorhead SC is expected to recommend an €8,000 increase in the basic salary of city and county councillors.
Ms Moorhead, a prominent barrister who has practised in Dublin for more than three decades, was appointed in June 2018 to undertake an independent review of the role and remuneration of councillors.
The final report, due to be brought to the cabinet for approval on Friday, recommends a salary increase from around €17,000 to around €25,000, according to the Irish Independent.
The draft Programme for Government agreed by the Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and Green Party leaderships includes a commitment to implementing the recommendations of the report.
