Barristers raise concerns over dust in Dublin courts
Barristers have expressed concerns about the health impact of dust in the Criminal Courts of Justice in Dublin, The Irish Times reports.
A barrister said visitors to the Law Library facilities in the building have complained of “chest infections and asthma-type things that they never had before”.
Although several air quality reports commissioned by The Bar of Ireland have indicated no cause for concern, the newspaper has seen another report by Environmental Efficiency which found a high concentration of silicon and calcium in dust collected from a ceiling tile.
The report warns that the dust “has the potential to pose a risk to human health and should be controlled”.
A spokesperson for The Bar said it would continue to “positively engage with the Courts Service” and had scheduled a meeting “to advance the recommended action regarding the housekeeping”.
A spokesperson for the Courts Service said surveys of air quality in the Criminal Courts of Justice had “found no issues of concern”.
