NI: Barristers raise over £6,000 for charity in dragon boat race
Northern Ireland barristers raised over £6,000 for a homelessness charity by taking part in a Dragon Boat Race on the River Lagan.
The race was organised by The Welcome Organisation, which is The Bar of Northern Ireland’s chosen charity of the year.
Barristers raced against the likes of Elliott Duffy Garrett, Madden & Finucane Solicitors and Bullitt Hotel, with spectators treated to exciting races on the water and family fun on dry land - with face painters, food and crafts for those who came out to support the rowers.
Speaking afterwards, Adele O’Grady QC, chair of the Bar’s charity committee, said: “Huge thanks to all of our rowers who took the time to participate on race day and to raise funds for The Welcome Organisation. The sun shone, our rowers sweated but were pipped at the post to a place in the final by just two seconds.
“Thanks as well to all members, family and friends who donated. We have raised close to £6,000 which is just amazing. It’s a fantastic start to the new fundraising term!”
