Beauchamps solicitor in hat trick at the ‘Olympics of Connemara ponies’
Grace Murphy, an associate in the litigation and dispute resolution department at Beauchamps Solicitors, specialises in medical negligence - but last week, she showed her expertise in another field.
Ms Murphy and her ponies went to the world-famous Clifden Connemara Pony Show, which she described as “the Olympics of Connemara ponies”.
She told Irish Legal News: “People travel from all over the world to see them competing there. Only the best go there.
“It’s really where you want to win. If you have a Connemara pony - it’s the only place you want to win in the calendar year.”
Ms Murphy came top in the gelding class, her ridden Connemara class and the ridden side-saddle class, before going into the championship where she emerged as reserve overall champion.
The solicitor claimed her passion for Connemara ponies goes hand-in-hand with her professional career as a solicitor.
She said: “I grew up with ponies and horses, so it fits into everyday life quite normally.
“I think it’s good to have a balance - it means you get fresh air on weekends and some evenings, which keeps your mind very focussed when you’re coming back into work.”
Asked whether she intends to compete again next year, Ms Murphy told ILN: “Absolutely!
“The fact I won so much out there this year will take the pressure off for a few years, but of course you want to keep going back every year.
“You have to keep trying and to take the rough with the smooth.”
